Honest Domes Lake Algarve Review: Read Before You Go!

We stayed at the Domes Lake Algarve in June, for some laid-back luxury in Portugal. The hotel was definitely impressive! Here’s a rundown of what we liked, and what we didn’t…

review of Domes in Portugal

My boyfriend, three-year-old son and I enjoyed a 4-night break at Domes Lake Algarve in June 2025. We flew from Bournemouth with Jet2, and stayed in a beautiful room on their B&B service.

We arrived, and felt very swanky. It was definitely a step up from our usual holiday accommodation. There’s a grand entrance, with stairs leading down to the pools area.

It was a swift and easy check in, and the receptionist showed us to our room. It’s such a big hotel I was definitely thankful for this, especially after my recent experience getting lost trying to find my room at the Alcudia Garden Aparthotel in Majorca.

The grounds at Domes Lake Algarve are lovely – manicured gardens, palm trees everywhere and an actual lake in the middle of it all. There’s even a little wooden walkway over the water so you can wander around for a morning walk, without leaving the hotel.

Domes Lake Algarve review in short

  • LOCATIONDomes Lake Algarve Autograph Collection is in Vilamoura, about five minutes walk from the marina town and five minutes the other way to the beach. It’s a 30-minute transfer from the airport.
  • LUXURY – You can stay B&B, half board or all inclusive (we did B&B).
  • NEGATIVES – The restaurants were more expensive than expected and there wasn’t any evening family entertainment.
  • NUTSHELL REVIEW – Breakfast was brilliant. Location was perfect. Kids club staff were great, and the spa was just incredible. The room was also a good size, with a bath and a shower.

Review of the bedrooms at Domes Hotel

Walking into our room was like walking into a spa – so fresh, so clean, and it just smelt so good.

The room was bright, clean and felt properly luxurious. Big squishy bed, another one made up for Reggie, a huge balcony with a view over the water, and plenty of space to fling open suitcases and make yourself at home.

Big fan of the massive bathroom too – always a win when there’s both a bath and a shower, especially when travelling with a little one.

The balcony was great for the evenings when it was Ben’s turn to put Reggie to bed. I had a lovely evening with a glass of wine and a book laying on that lounger (the one that isn’t mouldy) watching the sunset.
